ATELIER PIERROT U.S. Popup Tour Report – Gothic Lolita Fashion in Houston, Dallas & Los Angeles
by ATELIER PIERROT International Ambassador Connie (in collaboration with Fake Star)
When we first began planning ATELIER PIERROT’s very first U.S. popup tour, we truly didn’t know what to expect. Organised together with Fake Star, this journey across Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles was both exciting and uncertain. As our first attempt at hosting independent popups in America, budgeting and planning were a challenge. There was always the possibility that if it didn’t succeed, we might not be able to do another pop.
Thankfully, the overwhelming support from the lolita fashion community made this tour an unforgettable success!
Houston Popup – A Strong Start for Gothic Lolita in the U.S.
Our U.S. debut began in Houston, where we hosted a special VIP dinner on Friday 20th. This small and intimate evening allowed us to connect directly with ATELIER PIERROT fans over delicious food, taking cheki photos together and sharing exclusive goodie bags with the first time we've ever brought brand cookies and tea to the U.S.! Being able to speak personally with supporters of ATELIER PIERROT in the U.S. was incredibly meaningful to me and set a positive tone for the rest of the tour.

Later that night, we went ahead to AtCha in Chinatown to begin with setting up for the popup shop opening the next day. There was a small group of teenage boys whispering excitedly about the poster in the window who did a double take popup to get something? Setting up, we had a huge selection of items - gothic lolita dresses, blouses, corsets and accessories, as well as shoes and bags from our Maison de ATELIER PIERROT sub-brand, many of which were being shown in the U.S. for the first time.
There was significantly more items just for this one day than we'd had at any convention we'd attended, so it truly felt like we'd brought our Harajuku store to the US!

The popup officially opened at 11am on Saturday 21st, and the response exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, there was a long queue of people waiting outside for the opening time!

Images of crowd lined up
We had expected a large lolita crowd, but we were surprised to see so many non-lolitas coming to make their first frilly purchases. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, especially as many attendees were discovering Lolita fashi.
Many people don't know where to buy lolita pieces in the US, and there aren't many opportunities to shop in person.
Guests were able to try on garments, check sizing, and explore the intricate details that define gothic lolita style - something that's often difficult when shopping online.
In addition, the venue featured special collaboration drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, which quickly became a highlight of the event. Inspired by ATELIER PIERROT's beloved Noir Neko, I can confirm that the drinks were both tasty and aesthetic!
Due to the limited-production nature of Lolita fashion, many items were available in very small quantities—sometimes only one or two pieces. By the end of the day, we were nearly sold out! While unexpected, this incredible response gothic lolita fashion in the United States.
For ATELIER PIERROT and Fake Star it also meant a quick turnaround, as we had to pack up that very night and immediately travel directly to Dallas for out next stop on the tour.
Dallas Event – Community and Creativity
On Sunday 22nd, we joined the Bleeding Hearts community event in Dallas, bringing with us a fresh restock of ATELIER PIERROT items. The event featured a variety of booths, local creators, and an energetic community atmosphere.
While there was much to explore, we were honoured to see so many attendees gathering around the ATELIER PIERROT booth throughout the day. It was especially rewarding to engage with the local Lolita fashion community, as well as meet independent designers and artists contributing to the scene. ATELIER PIERROT is a select shop - in each of our stores in Japan, as well as stocking our original designs, we also have a variety of indie brands we work with, including Japanese brands such as Triple Fortune and Estrellas, as well as overseas brands like Vio's kinds of community events that allow us to first meet overseas designers and see their items in person.
Alongside the fashion, there was an impressive selection of food. I particularly loved the mini doughnuts, which were as charming as they were delicious!
The event was wrapped up with a community raffle, and among the prizes there was a chance to win our Innocent Tote Bag and our Nocturne Sheer Tulle Dress. I was happy to see them go to a home that would cherish them!
Events like this highlight the importance of community within Lolita fashion. Although lolita is a clothing-based hobby with a focus on shopping, these kinds of spaces for creativity and connection are vital for subcultures to thrive and develop.
Los Angeles Popup – Expanding the Experience
Our final stop brought us to Los Angeles for a two-day popup on 28th February and 1st March. This time, we shared our space with Haenuli and Iris Garden, creating a diverse and exciting shopping experience for visitors.
Once again, the enthusiasm was clear from the beginning, with long queues forming before opening. Inside, guests were welcomed into a fully restocked ATELIER PIERROT 공간.
Following the success in Texas, we made the decision to expand our offerings even further. In addition to the items shipped in advance, we flew an ATELIER PIERROT staff member from Japan to Los Angeles just for one night to bring additional items for our LA customers. This allowed us to introduce brand-new releases that had only arrived in Japan days earlier, as well as exclusive handmade pieces created in a lot of last-minute coordination, but I'm glad I was able to get a whole heap of extra items for our LA customers and fans!
Due to the small-batch production typical of lolita fashion, some items seen in Texas were no longer available. However, this made room for new designs and rare pieces, giving the Los Angeles popup its own unique identity.
Looking ahead, we hope to bring even more stock to future U.S. popups, though the limited nature of gothic lolita production will always remain part of its charm as a slow fashion.
First U.S. ATELIER PIERROT Tea Party – A Milestone Event
On Sunday 1st March, we hosted our very first independent ATELIER PIERROT tea party in the United States at the elegant Tea Rose Garden in Los Angeles.
The venue provided the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of gothic lolita fashion, with attendees dressed in beautifully coordinated outfits that filled the space with lace and frills. I'm always impressed with everyone's creativity when putting can easily see each person's unique style.
VIP guests were welcomed first, enjoying early entry along with exclusive novelties, cheki photo sessions, and special gifts including original tea, accessories, and a custom iced biscuit—our first time offering this experience in the U.S.
As the event continued, more guests arrived and the room came alive with conversation and shared enthusiasm for Lolita fashion. There was a generous selection of food, professional photography by Buttcape, and opportunities to connect directly with attendees at each table.
We also signed copies of Le Vitrail magazine and held a raffle featuring a range of prizes, including bag accessories, tote bags, and the grand prize: the Mellow Melody Dress. Known affectionately in Japan as “melomelo,” the name reflects the feeling of “falling in love”
This tea party was a truly memorable moment for ATELIER PIERROT in the U.S., and we hope to make the next one even larger.
